The Origins of Self Limiting Behavior

ARE YOU BUILDING SELF LIMITING BELIEFS IN YOUR CHILDREN?

LIKE SELF ESTEEM, SELF LIMITING BELIEFS ARE SIMPLY LEARNED BEHAVIORS.

This fascinating video demonstrates how self limiting behavior begins, even in life forms as uncomplex as a flea.

What we say and do as a parent immensely impacts our child's development, and their futue ability to parent well. No question, the self esteem we teach today will be with our children for a lifetime, and in such a changing and challenging world there could not possibly be a better gift to equip them for life's journey and reward them every step of the way!!

Healthy self esteem can begin today and leave a legacy for lifetimes!  But so can learned helplessness, imaginary constraints and self limiting beliefs.

Self Esteem Building Positive Affirmations

 Affirmation-covergirl

Self Esteem is one of those things that needs daily watering and care to thrive and bloom.

Here is just the thing - a free week of daily audio affirmations by a professional hypnotherapist, designed to build healthy self esteem and body image, as it helps you create your personal best body.

POSITIVE AFFIRMATION IS YOUR BEST DEFENSE ON THE ATTACK AGAINST YOUR SELF ESTEEM

Recently I saw the screening of “America the Beautiful“, a VERY moving, multi international award winning documentary film by Darryl Roberts that deals with how the pervasive activities of the fashion, clothing, cosmetics and entertainment industries have utterly trampled and destroyed women’s self-image for monitory gain -  in the process,  not only providing ample for the $40+ billion dollar diet and weight-loss industry but at the same time fostering the epidemic of lethal anorexic and bulimic eating disorders"

Here is what Darryl Roberts candidly says about the important message underlying his film, “The ubiquitous  deceptions by advertisers and the media, that think beautiful models set the standard to which all women must aspire, have been identified as a primary cause of low self esteem and the meteoric rise in clinical depression in women. “

The film should  be seen by anyone struggling self esteem and body image  issues- especially those who subscribe to the widely promoted  but  mistaken idea  that thinner is healthier. Epidemiological studies clearly show that this IS NOT THE CASE

Child Stress and Childhood Depression are Closely Linked

CHILD STRESS AND DEPRESSION ARE DANGEROUSLLY RELATED

Sad-child

Depression is the leading symptom of being over stressed. Children experience strong feelings of stress, confusion, self-doubt, pressure to fit in, to succeed, in the case of single parent homes financial uncertainty, and other fears while growing up.

Persistent sadness, feelings of helplessness and worthlessness, and expressions of hopelessness indicate childhood depression. If untreated, childhood depression could lead to suicidal thoughts and self-destructive behavior.

For too many children, suicide may appear to be a solution to their problems and stress.

STRESS > DEPRESSION > SELF DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR

Suicides among young people continue to be a serious problem. Each year in the U.S., thousands of children and teenagers commit suicide.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15-to-24-year-olds, and astoundingly suicide is the sixth leading cause of death for 5-to-14-year-olds.

Depression and suicidal feelings are treatable disorders and often strong indicators of stress overload.

SHOCKING CHILDHOOD DEPRESSION STATISTICS

The rate of childhood depression is increasing by 23% a year according to a Harvard Medical Center study.

The rate of depression is doubling every 20 years.

Today 1 in 3 American children suffers from depression, 4% of children under 6, according to 2001 National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) statistics.

Preschoolers are the fastest growing market for antidepressants.

There is absolutely no medical evidence that antidepressants work for young children. (a 2004 clinical review in the British medical Journal found no scientific evidence whatsoever that SSRIs work for preschoolers, or indeed for anyone under the age of eighteen.)

Antidepressants have been shown to lead to suicide in children under 18, warned the US Food and Drug Association (FDA) in 2004.

WHAT CAN WE DO TODAY?

Begin today taking teaching stress management seriously -- learn how to do it yourself and teach it to your children seriously. If you are still not convinced, read my blog post from a mother who found out too late how being overstressed herself hurt her children and went From Super Mom to America's Most Hated Mom.

Learn to recognize the signs of childhood depression and stress generally, and start by taking advantage of this great free stress management gift (you'll find the request form at that link) and begin TODAY!

A Healthy Way to Be Sick

Thumbs-up

A HEALTHY WAY TO BE SICK - A NEW BOOK BY MARC LERNER

You know how I love to review and recommend really good quality books that have something to offer to the quality of life in generally, and self esteem in particular.

One of the toughest self esteem issues is dealing with ongoing illnesses that are out of our control, that is why I want to share "A Healthy Way to Be Sick" by Marc Lerner, with you.  It's even extra valuable because if you download it and you'll also get over $8,000 is free stuff from experts and friends who are pitching in to support his book's message.

Marc, blind and in a wheelchair, tells us:

"The greatest lesson I learned from 28 years of dealing iwth a chronic ilness is that the quality of life does not depend on the health of your body, it depends on your focus. What if you learned to develop a habit that freed you from your mind?  Of course that isn't a place you have to live all the time, it is just a place to rest your consciousness when you are faced with a challenge you cannot control.

When we go beyond our thinking mind, we find what we call the WISDOM OF THE BODY.  That is not a difficult place to find, kids play there and athletes find it in the zone.  We touch it in passionate moments and at the depth of sincere prayers.  We can also find it as a natural place for shelter when we face difficult challenges.

Marc's illness forced him to that depth, and his ebook shares simple techniques to create this incredible habit.   This habit consciously conditions your mind to touch that "beyond thought reality" as simply as breathing.

It is within every one of us  to do this.  In fact, this reality is within you alwayts and when we ignore it, that is what real ignorance is, because In that inner wisdom are powerful inner resources needed to face difficult times.

If you or anyone you know deals with a challenge they cannot control; I strongly recommend this e-book.
